About Dublin Games Guild
Who are we?
The Dublin Games Guild (DGG) is an informal group of gamers (wargames, boardgames, roleplaying, card games) who meet every Wednesday in Dublin city centre. New members are always welcome. For directions on how to find us and a map click here.
What do we play?
We will play pretty much anything. A short list of what is currently popular, or has been popular in the past is:
Fantasy Miniatures (Warhammer)
SciFi Miniatures (WH40K, Warzone)
Ancient Miniatures (DBM)
WWII Miniatures (Rapid Fire, Crossfire)
Napoleonic Miniatures (club rules)
Roleplaying (AD&D)
Board Games (Battletech, Risk, Axis & Allies, German board games, etc)
Card Games (Magic)
If you want to play a game that is not currently being played come along and see if anyone is interested in trying it. If you already have a gaming group and are looking for a venue that's no problem. Anyone is able to join the DGG and members can book tables for any game related purposes they wish.
When do we meet?
We meet in the Models Inc games shop at 65 Dorset street upper every Wednesday night from 6.30 - 11PM. Directions are available here. If you haven't been along before and want to drop in for a look it's a good idea to wait until after 7:30 when almost everyone will have arrived.
Resources
We have a base mats for wargames to be played on as well as a collection of wargaming terrain of various types and scales, popular rulesets and boardgames. These are available to members for use at the meetings, although you may need to request that certain things are brought in advance. There is always a good supply of terrain available so for most miniatures games you only need to bring your army.
Depending on what games are being played, we have space for 10 to 12 tables to game on. Tables should be booked in advance since we are often full. If you turn up without booking in advance you may be able to book on the day. Do not just start playing on a table without booking since that table may be already booked and you will have to vacate it later on. Members are not limited to playing the popular games. If a member has a game they want to try and someone to play it with they can book a table and play.
Tournaments and campaigns are run by various members for the benefit of all members. There are usually two or three DBM competitions and a Games Workshop league at least each year.
A wide pool of players of different games is available. If you want to find new opponents for a game you already know and love or just want to find out what all these games are all about you should be be able to find someone to help you out.
Membership and costs
It doesn't cost anything to come along to have a look around and a chat.
If you want to come regularly or need to book a table you need to become a member. This is currently free and can be done by talking to Martin Kenny, the owner of Models Inc (anyone will be able to point him out to you).
There is a charge for playing games. This is on a per table basis and is currently €12 per table. A standard table is 6'x4'. Generally the cost for the table is split evenly between all the players at that table, but that is up to the individuals concerned. Our collector general will just want the fee per table and doesn't mind how it is raised.
People playing games that only require small amounts of space or that crowd a lot of people on to the one table (such as Magic or Risk) will be charged €2.50 per person..
We reserve the right to change the terms and conditions of playing at the club, but the current system has worked well over the past couple of years and we don't see any need to change our policies in the future. Unless that happens table fees will only increase in the event that the rent on our venue increases
How can you contact us?
