This year it will be a 4 round event, both DBMM and FOG will be offered (400/800AP, open lists) and entry is open to all. We’ve got space for 48 competitors, first come first served.

Generic Competition Rules for Both FOG/DBMM

  • Playing umpires - FOG will be HH plus 1 from NI. DBMM is TBA but probably 1 Scot plus 1 other
  • Umpires joint decision (if required) is final.
  • Players to supply terrain and playing equipment.
  • Saturday dinner - entrants to advise Hunter Hope soonest if they want a planed dinner on the Saturday night. HH will organise through George if there's demand.
  • Lunch and snacks will be included in the entry fee of £ 30. Cheques to BHGS c/o JD McNeil. Entrants to e-mail JD to say they're in the comp - copy to Hunter Hope. Republic of Ireland players can instead register (and pre-pay) through Rob Brennan instead and he will centrally contact Hunter/JD.
  • Prizes - Perpetual Celtic Champion Cup for the winner of the competition with the highest score, individual 1st, 2nd and 3rd trophies in DBMM and FOG, perpetual Celtic Cup for celtic "national" team winners plus a trophy for each member of the highest placed independent team.
  • Entries - completely open for the individual events although Celtic Cup team competition is limited as usual (see below for team rules). Teams are optional and individuals can always enter without being part of a team.
  • All figures must be representative and must be painted and based to an acceptable standard. Umpires will have the discretion to remove unsightly or unrepresentative items.
  • Players must be present and ready to start all matches at the appointed time. Where a player has a reasonable excuse for arriving late the match start will be delayed by up to 30 minutes. After which time the effected player will be awarded a bye and maximum points. No player will be awarded more than one bye for any reason.
  • Competitions are single list format.
  • If a player resigns from a game at any stage after the first “aggression” dice have been rolled their opponents will be awarded maximum points.
  • Matches will continue until the end of the current pair of bounds when time is called.
  • Army lists must be submitted for checking in advance and must be received by the List Checker not later than two weeks before the event. A penalty of 2 victory points per round, for each round of the competition (at any venue), may be imposed for late submission of lists. Any incorrect list discovered after a game has commenced (after aggression dice have been rolled) must be corrected prior to the next match.
  • 15mm scale figures are used and table size is 6' x 4'.
  • A modified Swiss Chess system will operate throughout the competition. Where possible players may not play against fellow club/team/nation players in the first 2 rounds, nor players whom they have played in earlier rounds, nor against any relatives in the first degree of consanguinity. Thus a player cannot be matched against his/her spouse, parent, brother, sister, and/or child.
  • Time will be called after 3.5 hours plus a 1 – 15 minute random factor. The same random factor will be used in the DBMM and FOG competitions, will be determined by the umpires prior to the start of the round and will not be revealed until the announcement is made. Players may always commence games earlier than the stated time by mutual consent.
  • Admission to the competition is at the sole discretion of the organisers and their decision on all matters is final. An application to enter denotes acceptance of the rules. All correspondence must enclose a stamped addressed envelope, and Players who indicate an e-mail address will receive details via e-mail.
  • Any incorrect list discovered after a game has commenced (after “aggression” dice have been rolled) must be corrected prior to the next match.
  • Lists should be sent to the list checker (ideally via Email). The list checker can only respond to queries in connection with Army Lists. All other queries must be addressed to the organisers.
  • Hunter will try to coordinate lifts from the airport but no promises... NI plus ROI players to contact Hunter with travel details soonest so I can give that a go.
  • Anyone acting in a non Celtic Cup way hung, drawn, disembowelled, quartered and (worst of all :-) sent to live in Engerland.....

    Team Composition
Teams consist of 3 players. Unlike last year the team can play all in one event or any mix of events. (However note that a team that plays in both events has a higher maximum score). There are two types of teams allowed in the event:

  • National Teams - only allowed for the "celtic" nations of Scotland, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Brittany. A national team must consist of at least two players resident in the nation/country/region they represent and one player who is a "national" but who may reside either in the region or elsewhere. The reason for this is because we want teams who reflect the players in the region rather than just anyone who can claim a link. If it is possible a national team must field at least one player in each competition (FOG/DBMM).
  • Independent Teams - any group of players not on a national team may form an independent team and compete for the independent team prize.

    Team Scoring
There is a new system this year. We will use BHGS-rankings style scores i.e. based on the final placings in each comp (FOG/DBMM). The first place player in each event scores 100 and the last place player scores 1, all other players are evenly placed between these values depending on their final placing in the event.

The team score is simply the sum of the scores of each member in the team.

    FOG-Specific Competition Rules

  • Rules - full FOG rules
  • Armies - 800 Points from any army list.
  • Army list checker to be announced

    DBMM-Specific Competition Rules

  • Unless there is a new, printed version of the DBMM rules available by 31st March 2010, the rules to be used are DBMM version 1.0. The Umpire will utilise the DBMM Commentary available on the DBMM Forum http://www.dbmm.org.uk/images/playaids/dbmm%20commentary%20v3_8.pdf
  • Army lists must be submitted allocating all elements including baggage to a command. They must specify the number of ME and the disheartened/broken/shattered levels for each command and for the whole army. The list must indicate the climate, aggression factor, year, geographical region, generals where relevant, classification of general, all stratagems chosen (and the elements to which they apply, if appropriate) and all double based elements. Once an army list has been submitted it may not be changed or altered other than to correct any errors. Players may only correct their errors by making reasonable changes to their list. It is not allowed to completely re-write the list, and the list checkers decision on this is final.
  • In accordance with the notes on p.1 of DBMM Army Lists, allied commands of less than 10 troop elements cannot have more than 1 baggage element.
  • Armies may be chosen from the published DBMM Army Lists v1.0 and the last Bk4 draft published before the 30th April at
    http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/DBMMlist/files/ i.

  • Lists submitted must not exceed 400APs .
